The aim of the census is to collect data on usage, impacts and operation of National Research Infrastructure facilities, including both physical infrastructure and human resources.
Wallis has won and retained this project because of our ability to develop and deliver innovative data collection solutions, as well as the high level of support we provide to the infrastructure administrators who complete the census.
Wallis has run this project since 2017, when we administered the NRI census for the 2015-16 financial year.
Wallis collects census data from 30 to 40 infrastructure projects using a customised census tool. Wallis has typically received a response rate of at or very close to 100%. This is achieved through Wallis not only providing innovative data collection solutions tailored to the respondents’ needs, but also the high level of support Wallis provides to infrastructure administrators who complete the census. Around 20 of the infrastructure projects are part of the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS). Two reports and sets of data are produced, one limited to the NCRIS projects, and one that includes all infrastructure.
The census data and reporting that Wallis provides the Department assists with policy development, program planning and investment plans.
