Longitudinal Survey of Australian Youth (LSAY)

Wallis Consulting Group has undertaken all data collection for LSAY since 2000.

Each year the participants are interviewed by telephone and answer questions related to their study, work and job search activities, volunteering, living arrangements and attitudes to a range of issues that may affect the lives of young Australians.

There are currently three cohorts of young people participating in the study.  Each of them was introduced to LSAY following their participation in the OECD's Program for International Student Assessment (PISA).

The oldest of these, is a group who were selected for the project in 2003 and are known as the Y03 group.  They had their first telephone interview in 2003.

The next group became part of the project in 2006.  They are known as the Y06 group and they participated in PISA in 2006.  Their first telephone interview was in the latter half of 2007.

The newest recruits to the survey are the Y09 cohort members who will all complete their first telephone interview in 2010 after participating in PISA in 2009

Further information about LSAY and access to previous survey reports can be obtained through the LSAY website at http://www.lsay.edu.au/
